How to Transfer SMS/iMessage from Old iPhone to iPhone 7/7 Plus/SE/6S

It is really amazing to upgrade to a new iPhone. You'll have a lot of new features and functions to play with. However, one of the upgrading issues is that when you set up the new iPhone, your Messages app will be empty. Then, how to go from your old iPhone 4/4S/5/5S to a new iPhone 7/7 Plus/SE/6S without leave your text messages behind? Don't worry. This blog looks at how to transfer SMS and iMessage from iPhone to iPhone using iCloud Backup, or using third-party tools like iPhone SMS Transfer, Jihosoft Mobile Phone Transfer, etc.

Transfer SMS from iPhone to iPhone with iCloud Backup
Text messages are contained within the iCloud backup. So you can make use of iCloud backup to transfer all your text messages/iMessages from one iPhone to another.

Connect the old iPhone to a power source and turn on Wi-Fi. Go to Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup.
Turn on iCloud Backup. Then tap Back Up Now and wait for the backup process to complete.
On your new iPhone, go to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings.
Enter your Apple ID and Password, your new iPhone now displays all your messages from the old iPhone.

Note: Messages forms part of the wider backup and restore, so you'll have to restore device settings and app data at the same time, which removes any new messages along with other data from your new iPhone.

If you don't want to use iCloud backup, worry not, there's a solution. You can rely on third-party tools to get the iPhone message transfer done. There are two recommended programs:

Transfer Messages from iPhone to iPhone with iPhone SMS Transfer
iPhone SMS Transfer provides iPhone users solutions to transfer & export text messages to a computer. Also, it enables users to transfer SMS back to your iPhone or even to a new iPhone.

1. Run iPhone SMS Transfer and connect both iPhones to computer with USB cables. The software will find the devices and show them on the Devices list.
2. Right click the iPhone you want to transfer SMS from and press Transfer iPhone SMS to other iPhone.
3. Select the iPhone to transfer SMS to, and then click Confirm to continue. When transferred successfully, you will see all your messages saved on your new iPhone after restarting it. 

Move SMS from iPhone to iPhone with Jihosoft Mobile Transfer
The other method is using Jihosoft Mobile Phone Transfer. Unlike iPhone SMS Transfer, Mobile Transfer has a more intuitive and friendly UI. With it, you can transfer SMS/iMessages from iPhone to iPhone with one click.

1. Run Jihosoft Mobile Transfer software and connect both iPhones to computer via USB cables. The program will detect the devices and display them.
2. Make sure the old iPhone listed as Source and the new one listed as Destination. If not, click on Flip.
3. Mark SMS from the source phone panel and click on Start Copy to begin the sync. Once the sync is done, you will see all your old iPhone messages in your new iPhone after restarting it.
